Angels for Wheels
As part of a sweeping attempt to increase the impact we have on peoples lives, we asked our clients and a demographically-similar sample of people to identify the barriers that prevent them from receiving the life-transforming services of the Damien Center. The number one response was the lack of transportation.
Care coordination at the Damien Center is the gateway to housing and emergency assistance, legal advice, and the food pantry, as well as off-site services such as doctor appointments and job training. Considering that nearly 80% of our clients live at or below the federal poverty income level, they simply lack the means to access these services. When our clients cannot make these appointments, they do not receive the proper care necessary for successful management of their health.
This is such a simple problem to fix, but one that can have severe consequences if not addressed.
So the Damien Center has created a new initiative, Angels for Wheels. We need your help to purchase 20,000 IndyGo bus passes this year at $1.50 each. That will enable 850 clients to receive two all-day passes per month which they can use to come to the Center for care coordination, the food pantry, counseling and support groups, and go to their doctors office, job training, and other vital services:
*Your $100 investment in this effort will purchase 67 passes *Your $250 investment will purchase 167 passes *A generous $500 investment will purchase 333 passes
It's difficult for most of us to imagine that a bus pass can be the difference between sickness and health, abundance and scarcity, but we can assure you that this small gesture will make a huge difference. By making this investment, you become a vital partner with us in our work and we are very, very grateful for your consideration.
