HIV Testing

Our trained testing team recommends that if you have had multiple casual sex partners in the course of a few months, you should get tested every three months.

Most sexually active people should get tested every six months. People in monogamous relationships may use their own discretion, but we recommend testing once per year.

In alignment with CDC guidelines, we allow testing participants to be tested every 90 days. If you are experiencing STD symptoms and need urgent treatment, please call us at 317 632 0123 for resources.

Not sure how often you should be tested for HIV?

Call our testing desk at 317 632 0123 or talk to your health care provider

For women who plan to become pregnant, testing is even more important. If a woman is HIV+, medical care and certain drugs given during pregnancy can lower the chance of passing HIV to her baby. All women who are pregnant should be tested during each pregnancy.

According to the CDC, the behaviors listed on this page increase your chances of getting HIV. If you answer yes to any of these questions, you should be tested for HIV.

Have you injected drugs or steroids or shared equipment (such as needles, syringes, works) with others?

If you answered yes, we recommend getting tested.

Have you had unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex with men who have sex with men, multiple partners, or anonymous partners?

If you answered yes, we recommend getting tested.

Have you exchanged sex for drugs or money?

If you answered yes, we recommend getting tested.

Have you been diagnosed with or treated for hepatitis, tuberculosis (TB), or a sexually transmitted infection (STI), like syphilis?

If you answered yes, we recommend getting tested.

Have you had unprotected sex with someone who could answer yes to any of the above questions?

If you answered yes, we recommend getting tested.

Have you had sex with someone whose history of sex partners and/or drug use is unknown to you or have you or your partner had many sex partners?

If you answered yes, we recommend getting tested.

Have you been tested for HIV within the last 90 days?

In alignment with CDC guidelines, we allow testing participants to be tested every 90 days. If you are experiencing STD symptoms and need urgent treatment, please call us at 317 632 0123 for resources.

STD Testing

Damien Center provides free and confidential sexually transmitted diseases (STD - also known as STI or sexually transmitted infections) testing by state-certified testers at our Damien Center Testing Center.

Both walk-ins and appointments for individuals ages 13+ are accepted, and our friendly testing team is ready to assist you!

Our free and confidential tests include:

  • HIV
  • Chlamydia
  • Syphilis
  • Gonorrhea
  • Pregnancy

When you visit our testing center, you choose which tests you want. If you are symptomatic (showing signs or symptoms of a STD infection like itching, rash or discharge), you will be referred to a medical provider for immediate services rather than waiting for test results. If you don’t have a medical provider, our staff will provide a referral to access treatment at the Bellflower Clinic, and provide transportation assistance when available.

Pregnancy Testing

Unprotected sexual encounters can lead to more than HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

At our testing center, we also provide free and confidential pregnancy testing. Our testing counselors are able to provide same-day results and issue referrals for follow-up care, if needed.

For HIV+ women, medical care and certain medications can be given during pregnancy to lower the chance of passing HIV to the baby. Knowing you’re pregnant is the first step to having a healthy pregnancy!

Not HIV+? You can still access our free pregnancy testing, as well as HIV and STI testing.
