Volunteer FAQHere are a few of the frequently asked questions about volunteering at The Damien Center.Q. Is there a minimum number of volunteer hours required? A. There is no minimum number of hours required. Q. Why do I need to attend a volunteer orientation? A. Volunteers are representatives of The Damien Center, and as such need to attend a volunteer orientation session to ensure that they possess up to date knowledge of both The Damien Center and HIV/AIDS. For upcoming orientation dates, please check The Damien Center calendar. Q. May families and kids volunteer? A. Yes, however there are some limitations as to what roles children are able to serve in. We will be happy to work with you to try and find a suitable volunteer opportunity. Q. Can my group volunteer for a one-time event? A. Yes, however we have limited volunteer opportunities during the evenings and weekends. Please contact volunteer@damien.org to set up a group volunteer opportunity. Q. Are there rules about confidentiality? A. Yes. Because we are dealing with sensitive medical information there are strict rules regarding volunteer confidentiality. All volunteers are required to review the confidentiality policy and sign the confidentiality form after attending the Volunteer Orientation session. Q. Do you have evening and weekend volunteer opportunities available? A. Because The Damien Center is open during the regular work week, evening and weekend volunteer opportunities are limited with the exception of special events. Please contact us and we will let you know if there are upcoming opportunities, or tell you about volunteer opportunities that can be completed on your own time such as running a food drive. Q. Is a background check required to volunteer with The Damien Center? A. A background check is required for some volunteer positions, however a potential volunteer will not be automatically disqualified if the background check is positive. |
