Volunteer Opportunities

Listed below are a sample of available opportunities to volunteer with The Damien Center.

Dining Out for Life Ambassadors
Duties and Responsibilities: Volunteers will promote the Dining Out for Life event and encourage diners to attend your assigned restaurant. Also serve as an ambassador at your assigned restaurant the night of the event (usually the 4th Thursday in April). Note that there will be a special Ambassador Training to prepare for this event.
Shifts Available: 3-4 hour shift on the event day (4th Thursday in April) for either lunch or dinner.

Grande Masquerade Assistance

Duties and Responsibilities: Volunteers assist with a variety of event-related activities the weekend of Grande Masquerade, including set-up, registration, auction, clean-up, greeter, etc. Note that there will be a special training for Grande Masquerade volunteers to prepare for this event.
Shifts Available: Various shifts the day/night of the event, as well as the days before and after.

Food Pantry Assistance
Duties and Responsibilities: Work with other volunteers and staff to clean, organize, and stock the pantry as well as assisting clients with food selection.
Shifts Available: Regular weekly shifts are available Monday-Thursday 10:00am - 4:00pm. There is also the occasional need for stocking assistance when a large shipment arrives.

Testing and Prevention Desk Receptionist Duties and Responsibilities: Work the front desk within the testing and prevention department, answering the phone and assisting testers with paperwork for walk-in's.
Shifts Available: Regular weekly shifts are available Monday-Friday 9:00am-6:00pm. Evening shifts are available Tuesday and Thursday until 8:00pm.

Office Administrative Needs
Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with administrative needs of various departments in the Center - i.e. copies, paperwork, database entry, phone calls, etc.
Shifts Available: Shifts vary according to need.

Speakers Bureau
Duties and Responsibilities: Volunteers speak about The Damien Center and HIV 101 with high school and university students, religious congregations, public forums, etc. Note that special training will be provided for Speakers Bureau members.
Shifts Available: Varies. Speakers Bureau members will be contacted as speakers are requested.

Health Fairs
Duties and Responsibilities: Work with staff members and other volunteers to manage The Damien Center information booths at the various health and community fairs.
Shifts Available: 2-4 hour shifts as needed, most fairs occur May-September.

Client Enrichment Leaders Duties and Responsibilities: Volunteers will teach classes/seminars to clients in an area of their own expertise. Examples may include basic finance, cooking, goal setting, yoga, etc.
Shifts Available: Varies

Youth Activities
Duties and Responsibilities: Supervise youth activities, act as a chaperone and provide transportation for field trips, etc. Please note that a background check will be required for all volunteers who interact with minors.
